Remembering Les Miles

Remembering Les Miles

On Sunday September 25th, the LSU Tigers fired head football coach Les Miles after the Tigers’ 18-13 loss to Auburn. To fill into his head coaching shoes LSU made Louisiana born and interim coach Ed Orgeron head coach for the remainder of the season. Orgeron then began his head coaching career with a 42-7 victory over the Missouri Tigers last Saturday night.

Miles leaves LSU with the second best record in school history going 114-11 in his 11+ years at the school. Miles also won a BCS National Championship in 2007 with the Tigers victory over The Ohio State Buckeyes. Louisiana natives remembered Les as the “mad hatter” for his aggressive play calling and because he almost always wears a hat as he coaches.

LSU former Quarterback Bradley Kragethorpe’s  favorite memory playing under Coach Miles was, “Too many to choose from from but one that sticks out would probably be when we beat Ole Miss in 2014 when they were ranked like 3rd and undefeated.”

Kragethorpe continued, “Coach Miles’ mother passed away the night before the game and we had a really emotional team meeting that night when he told us and went out there and really won that game for him. “

Kragethorpe was asked who was the best player when he was at LSU and what separated this player from the rest of the pack. He said, “Again too many to choose from. But I would say Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham stick out the most. They were gifted but also worked extremely hard and had a lot of passion for the game. “

He told me that Coach Miles really stressed “playing together as a team and winning together in all three phases and team success over individual success. “

As for the next coach to be ushered into LSU, here are my top three speculations for the next man to step into the head coaching job at LSU.

1)   Art Briles

Briles, the former coach of the Baylor Bears was fired last spring due to off the field issues and controversy. I think that Briles would be very successful in Baton Rouge, bringing some of his great coaching styles to the program. I think Briles could bring in a successful QB which the Tigers have had problems trying to find this year.

2)    Tom Herman

Herman is the current coach of the Houston Cougars who are undefeated at this point in the season. The Tigers would also buy in on Herman’s offensive fire power led by QB Greg Ward. That is something LSU is lacking and sorely needs in order to win the SEC West and beat Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide

3)     Jimbo Fisher

The current head coach of the Florida State Seminoles wanted to go to LSU last year when rumors of Les Miles being fired came up. Fischer also hopes to usher in an era with a well-rounded Tigers team on offense and defense.
