2017 MLB season predictions

2017+MLB+season+predictions

The Major League Baseball season is right around the corner. Spring Training is in full swing, and many teams are looking to rebound, or pick back up from where they left off a season ago. With that being said, I will break down every team’s season from last year, highlight their key players and additions, and discuss where I think they will end up this season. And I will conclude with a brief summary of each Division and how they fared last season and compare them (National and American Leagues). Without further ado, here we go.

Starting off with National League. The National League overall, won 1273 games, and lost 1228. The whole league finished above .500, which isn’t uncommon, but those numbers are rather good, considering they were, as a whole, 45 games above the .500 mark. The best team a year ago in the National League, came from the National League Central  Division, the World Series Champions, the Chicago Cubs.

National League East:

Washington Nationals: Finished in first place in the National League East last season, and posted a record of 95-67. The Nationals are a pretty loaded team. Manager Dusty Baker, has brought the fire and winning atmosphere that they desperately needed. The team is lead by former MVP, Bryce Harper, and All-Star pitcher, Max Scherzer. The Nationals won’t wow you with big name players, but they do play some great baseball. I expect them to win 90+ games, and play in the National League Championship Series this season.

New York Mets: Finished second place in the National League East last season, while posting a record of 87-75. The Mets have talent, but I’m afraid they will start falling off the top tier this season. With many key players coming off injuries, and a pitching staff that is in need of remodeling; I see the Mets as a .500 team give or take a few wins or losses. Their only hope for the playoffs, would have to be the Wild Card, but I don’t see this happening because they can’t compete with the young guns in Washington D.C..

Miami Marlins: Finished third in the National League East, posted a 79-82 record. The Marlins are loaded with young talent in Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, and Giancarlo Stanton. I see this team finally posting a winning season, and winning at least 85 games. Don’t sleep on this team. Sure their pitching is mediocre at best, but I think they have what it takes to make the playoffs, maybe even a shallow run. The Wild Card game seems like a more reasonable fit for these guys.

Philadelphia Phillies: Finished fourth in the National League East one year ago, with a 71-91 record. I see this team going nowhere but down. The Phillies organization is need of remodeling. Ryan Howard was out of his prime about three years ago, yet they still relied on him last season. Their pitching rotation is absolutely god awful, and not developing. I see them falling below .500, and winning a mere 65 games this season. They definitely won’t be in the playoffs, and probably won’t be for another five years. I think they will finish last in the division.

Atlanta Braves: Finished last in the National League East last season, with a record of 68-93. I see them making a little progress this season, but nothing too steep. I think they’ll win 70 games this year. I think the Braves will finish fourth in the division. They acquired Brandon Phillips from the Cincinnati Reds, but he is on the decline especially at the plate. The Braves have some young okay talent for pitching, but I don’t expect them to be relatively good or above .500 for a few more years.

National League Central:

Chicago Cubs: Finished last season first place in the National League Central, and won the World Series ending the 100 year drought. I see this team picking right back up where they left off. Their pitching is phenomenal, their young talent is second to none. They are lead by Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, and All-Star pitcher Jake Arrieta. I think the Cubs can repeat and win 100+ games again this season, as well as sprint right through the National League Central, and compete for another World Series.

St. Louis Cardinals: Finished second in the National League Central with a trip to the playoffs. Recorded an 86-76 record. Another great team every year. The Cardinals are always seemingly in the top tier of teams. A lot of recent success, I think is leading to their demise. They haven’t really tried to replace any of their All-Stars, who are now getting old, and reaching the decline of their careers, and I think that will come back to haunt them here in a few years. Expect 75 wins from them, and maybe contention for a Wild Card spot.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Finished third in the National League Central, with a 78-83 record. I think some Pirates fans were probably disappointed after last season. This team has a lot of potential, but they consistently lack the WOW factor in big moments. They are lead by Andrew McCutchen, another MVP caliber player. I expect the Pirates to win 75 games this season, and possibly compete for a Wild Card spot.

Milwaukee Brewers: Finished fourth in the National League Central, with a record of 73-89. I expect the Brewers to finish in the top three in the National League Central this season. They may not make the playoffs, but I expect at least 80 wins out of them. Another possible Wild Card team. They have consistently gotten better every season. A strong young team, lead by Ryan Braun, and pitcher Matt Garza.

Cincinnati Reds: Finished last in the National League central with a 68-94 record. The Reds are clearly in a rebuilding phase. They traded Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Brandon Phillips, Aroldis Chapman, and pretty much all of their starting pitchers. All this was strategic, they are clearing cap space, and will be able to buy the more expensive players here in the next five to six years. They are lead by Adam Duvall, and pitcher Raisel Iglesias. I see the Reds coming in last again in the division, and winning 65 games.

National League West:

Los Angeles Dodgers: Won the National League West last season, with a record of 91-71. The Dodgers are packed with young talent in Yasiel Puig, Joc Pederson, Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Veterans; Adrian Gonzalez, and Andre Ethier. However, the Dodgers consistently disappoint in the playoffs. They can’t yet win the big game, but I think this year they could. The Dodgers are a World Series contender, and should win 95 games.

San Francisco Giants: Second place in the National League West. Record last season 87-75. Giants are the New England Patriots of the MLB. They never seem to have all the insane athletes and huge name players. But they play baseball very fundamentally, and have some of the best pitching in the Big Leagues. I see the Giants as a World Series threat every year. I think they’ll win 90 games.

Colorado Rockies: Third place in the National League West. Last years record 75-87. The Rockies aren’t a good team, just in a rather weak Division. Sure, they won 75 games, but they haven’t made any noise in the playoffs in the past five to six years. I think they’ll miss the playoffs and win 70 games.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Fourth place in the National League West. Last seasons record 69-93. Another mediocre team out of the west. Have not been good since their last world series. I don’t expect the Diamondbacks to be good for at least 6-8 more years. Their pitching isn’t good. They’re hitting is possibly the worst in the league. I don’t expect them to win more than 65 games.

San Diego Padres: Last in the National League West. Last seasons record was 68-94. Very similar to the Diamondbacks. No pitching, traded all their offense away. Probably won’t be in the playoffs for another 10-12 years. In need of an actual real rebuild. I don’t see them winning more than 60 games. I also think they’ll come in last again.

American League East:

Boston Red Sox: Finished first place in the toughest division in the MLB. Record was 93-69. The Red Sox have one of the biggest budgets in baseball, and there records have shown it. The Red Sox are one of those teams where ever since 2002 they have been lethal and been in talks for a World Series almost every year. The Red Sox are lead by Mookie Betts, whom plays outfield and is one of the best hitters in the Bigs. I think the Red Sox will win their division again, and be playing in the World Series. I also think they will win 90+ games.

Baltimore Orioles: Second place in the toughest division in the MLB. Record was 89-73. The Orioles have some All-Stars. Not a lot of big names on their team besides Adam Jones, and Manny Machado, but they always seem to win. However, they don’t win the big games. With that being said, I think the Orioles are a good team, but I don’t think they’re World Series good. I think they’ll win 85 games.

Toronto Blue Jays: Tied with the Orioles for second place. Record of 89-73. The Blue Jays are one of the best teams to watch on TV. They are stacked with power hitters, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista, and Josh Donaldson. The Jays are a tough team come playoff time. I think they will win 90 games, and be fighting for a spot in the World Series.

New York Yankees: Fourth place in the American League East. Last season record is 84-78. The Yankees are the Cowboys of the MLB. They claim it’s their year every year, but really haven’t delivered for 5 years. They acquired Aroldis Chapman for the second time during this off season, and he will definitely boost that bullpen, but I think they’ll miss the playoffs and win a mere 80 games.

Tampa Bay Rays: Last place in the American League East. Record of 68-94. The Rays are similar to the Reds. They are rebuilding the organization, and don’t have a lot of talent right now. They will not win more than 65 games. A horrible team, may be the worst in the MLB. Not a fan of the Rays.

American League Central:

Cleveland Indians: First place in the American League Central. Posted a record of 94-67. Very tough team, but they let a stud in Rajai Davis get away this off season. The Indians lost in game seven of the World Series last season, and played one of the greatest baseball games of all time against the Cubs. Indians are lead by their stacked pitching, and need some guys to step up offensively if they want to repeat their season from a year ago. I think they will win 85 games and be playing in the American League Championship Series.

Detroit Tigers: Second place in the American League Central. Posted a record of 86-75. Lead by the most recent Triple Crown achiever, Miguel Cabrera. The Tigers will always be tough, because of how much of an impact their explosive offense has on a game. I think the Tigers will be a contender again this season. Also think they will win 85 games.

Kansas City Royals: Third place in the American League Central. Posted a record of 81-81. Good team, just had a disappointing season. I think they will bounce back, and make a deep run, and win this division. They have a lot of depth at pitching. High powered offense and will be hungry to get back to their winning ways. I  think they will win 90 games, and compete for the World Series.

Chicago White Sox: Fourth place in the American League Central. Posted a record of 78-84. Mediocre team, that is on the rise. Acquired Todd Frazier last year. He is a rising star in the MLB, and i think if they surround him with more young talent this team could be dangerous. However, I don’t see this happening for at least another five years. I think they’ll win 70 games.

Minnesota Twins: Last place in this division, and the worst team in the MLB from last season. Posted a record of 59-103. These guys are awful. All their players are old and washed up. In need of a major rebuild. I don’t see them winning more than 50 games this year. Won’t be in the playoffs for at least another 15-20 years. The Cleveland Browns of the MLB.

American League West:

Texas Rangers: Won the American League West last season. Record was 95-67. They are a good team, but not a clutch team. Paced with Stars offensively and defensively. I don’t expect them to have as much success this season. I think they will be a Wild Card team, and win a mere 85 games.

Seattle Mariners: Second in the American League West last season. Had a record of 86-76. Not that good of a team. I think they might win their division this year, but not have any playoff success. They have some good bats, but pitching is lacking. I think they will win a solid 88 games.

Houston Astros: Third in the American League West. With a record of 84-78. I think the Astros are a great team. This year is their year. Lead by Jose Altuve, the Astros have young studs all over the place. I think their young talent can lead them to the promised land, and a division title, and I think they can win 90 games.

Los Angeles Angels: Fourth in the American League West. Posted a record of 74-88. I think the Angels were disappointed with their season. They are a good, young, talented ball club, and they should be better than they are. However, I don’t think they have what it takes to win the division and I think they’ll miss the playoffs again this season. Also think they will only win 72 games.

Oakland Athletics: Last in the American League West. Posted a record of 69-93. I think the Athletics made some good moves this off season, by acquiring Rajai Davis. That won’t push them over the top, but it will make them a better match up in their division. I think the Athletics will win 67 games and miss the playoffs.
