10 things I’ll miss about Elder High School
Memories that will last forever
December 2, 2018
Slowly but surely, I am beginning to realize that my time here at Elder is coming to an end. This year and freshman year have been the best years of them all and it is crazy to think that I only have one semester left at this special place.
Elder has had a huge impact on my life because of the friendships I have made, the teams I have been on, and the teachers I have been around. As I dwell on graduation in May, I have decided to come up with a list of 10 things that I’ll miss at Elder High School, so here they are:
My Friends
Even though I may have known a lot of kids coming into high school, I still made a ton of friendships at Elder that will last a lifetime. My friends have been great to me over the four years and have had nothing but a positive impact on my life. I will truly miss them next year when I am at Xavier, but know I’ll keep in touch.
Elder Golf
From being a four year varsity member, I invested a lot of time and effort to get the best out of myself as well as other teammates on the golf course. It was disappointing only making it to State my sophomore year and not making it again with or without the team, but it still gave me relationships that I’ll be able to keep in the future.
Elder Freshman Baseball
This may have been the most fun I’ve ever had on a team. We all knew we underachieved big time, but I had one hell of a time pitching for the Panthers. The teammates I had were excellent and made practices and especially the games that much more enjoyable. The coaches had a ton of belief in me and they helped get the most out of my talent, so I truly appreciated that.
Elder Freshman and JV Basketball
There was nothing like play in “The Pit” on a Friday night and taking down a GCL school as well as traveling on the road to an opposing GCL school and taking them down on their court. Practices were very competitive because we had guys that really wanted to be on the floor in big time games. Being a big guy with Danny Ginn and Anthony Holmes, it was very enjoyable to watch them go at it before, during, or after practice.
Cheering Sections
In general, the atmosphere during an Elder sporting event is amazing, but what made it the best was getting in the cheering section over the four years. It was electric and made the sporting events very exciting to attend.
Purple Fridays
There’s just something unique about every student wearing Elder apparel to school on Fridays. Next year, it will be very different being one of the few at Xavier wearing purple on Friday, but I will still carry that legacy with me.
Teachers and Guidance Counselors
I can’t say it enough but the teachers here at Elder care about what you do in and out of the classroom. If you work hard and are willing to reach out, you will get the utmost respect and kindness that you deserve. Thus, they are always looking out for you.
Lunches
Talk about friends bashing on one another… there isn’t a day where I haven’t been a part of a funny lunch. Sport talks brings out a lot of beef with the kids I sit around and has made for some very hysterical arguments.
Pep Rallies
Hands down, I thought the freshman year pep rallies were the best. However, the pep rallies the last three years have been a joy to attend and I will miss them next year.
Drives to School
Late sophomore year and junior year just felt like a normal 20 minute drive to school. Now, I am almost in the middle of my senior year and each day just feels more and more memorable because of the short amount of time I have here.
Thank you Elder for everything, and always, ALTIORA.
