One lucky guy from Elder got to go and take a look at the all new, vastly improved Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. This new corvette got its name from way back in 1963 when the first one rolled off the lines. The Stingray got its name from the long front end and the shorter back end. The Corvette has changed vastly since then, but has always had some features from the past including circular tail lights, until now.
The new Corvette has only one engine option for now, a 6.2L V-8 pushing out 460 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. All of this will launch you from 0-60 in 3.8 SECONDS!! All of that power coming from a naturally aspirating 6.2L V-8 sent shivers down my spine when I started it up.
When I first sat down I was expecting the usual, plastic this plastic that, which is what we have come to expect from corvette, but some, I repeat, some of that has changed. It is no longer completely filled with big cheap plastic stuff everywhere, and even has some cool gadgets.
For example, the ordinary instrument panel is now completely customizable based on which setting you are in. It offers several settings ranging from weather, eco, touring, sport, and track modes. For all you hippies out there the eco mode allows the motor to deactivate 4 of the cylinders, in essence making it a V-4 and achieving 29 MPG on the highway. Also, with the manual option activated, is a 7 speed transmission. Touring mode soften ups the ride, and unlike in previous models, it will not break your back! But throw it into track and it’s a completely different story. It is equipped with magnetic ride control that can “read” the road every millisecond and adjust in 15 milliseconds.
This is a completely reinvented car, the exterior body is just superb. The pictures don’t do it justice, on the road if you find this car you will gasp with amazement at its beauty. I honestly can’t think of anything wrong with it, and I just want to glide my finger across its ever so smooth body. To a Corvette traditionalist it might turn some heads, but they knew that the Corvette needed to be improved, and they didn’t let anything get in their way. The new taillights are no longer circles, but rectangular with crisp lines and include LED bulbs for a more even light distribution. It incorporates completely functional exterior vents, cool intricate parts to decrease drag and lift. The entire exterior body has aerodynamics in mind, and the engineers did a wonderful job on it.
Overall this is an impressive car that laps its predecessors. It comes with all of this and is still starting out at only $53,000! If you look at its competition it could be more than double that, but are you getting twice the car? I don’t know I will leave that up to you. As always I would like to thank Joseph Chevrolet for their time and willingness to show me around this amazing car.
