If you are looking for a great way to spend the holiday season with your friends or family, while receiving great entertainment, then look no further than Cincinnati’s very own Playhouse in the Park. From November 27th through December 29th A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is being presented.
Bruce Cromer played the character of Ebenezer Scrooge and did a great job. It was a very believable performance. He has been in this play since 1997 playing eight years of Bob Cratchit and nine of Scrooge. I was very surprised with how well he seemed to blend with all the other characters in the end of the show as well as how well he portrayed the emotions that were needed to fulfill such a role.
Ryan Wesley Gilreath played the character of Bob Cratchit. He played this role unbelievably well. Gilreath was full of energy and really made the play that was serious a very funny show. The way he interacted the comedy with his body motions and the type of voice he was using when he was walking or scared.
Gregory Procaccino played the role of Jacob Marley. He has been in the Christmas Carol since 1991 and is also a director in several of his own productions. The interesting thing about Procaccino is that he is a West Side guy, born and raised. His performance as Jacob Marley was great he was a very convincing Marley and also had the right type of voice to fulfill all the yelling.
Michael Evan Haney was the director of this fine performance. He has been directing this play since 1993. He portrayed genius with the way he changed the way the story went very slightly. The only way he changed it was by introducing comedy into the performance. It was perfect way to incorporate everything together.
James Leonard Joy was the set designer for this performance the way he built this set was by far one of the best sets I have ever seen. I also thought that the way he disguised the actors into the set when jumping out for surprises was also a very cool technique.
Overall I thought this play was very professionally done. It was the first time I have seen it and it was amazing in the way everything went together. If you have the chance to go see it I highly recommend going to see it at the Playhouse in the Park.
