Bubble Watch: March 7th
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! March Madness has arrived and Selection Sunday looms closer every day. Who is in as we start conference tournaments, and who needs some help?
LOCKS: North Carolina, Florida State, Virginia, Louisville, Notre Dame, Duke, Miami, Virginia Tech
SHOULD BE IN: Wake Forest
Wake took care of business in a time of need, taking down Louisville, and winning on the road against Virginia Tech. This team has a solid RPI of 28, and should be dancing come Sunday if they can avoid a loss to last place Boston College.
WORK LEFT TO DO: Georgia Tech, Syracuse
Tech stuggled down the stretch at the end of the season, and are currently on the outside looking in. They now need to make a crucial run in the ACC tournament to give them a boost into the tournament.
The ‘Cuse were solid in conference with wins over Duke, Virginia, and Florida State. However, with those great wins comes terrible losses. Boston College, St. Johns, Georgetown, and UCONN could come back to kill their chances based on what the committee is looking at.
LOCKS: Kansas, Baylor, West Virginia, Iowa State, Oklahoma State
WORK LEFT TO DO: Kansas State
Kansas State is also on the outside looking in, they could use a boost with a run in the Big 12 tournament. An upset over one of the top five could definitely help their case.
LOCKS: Villanova, Butler, Creighton
SHOULD BE IN: Marquette, Seton Hall, Providence, Xavier
Xavier finds their way back out of a lock position thanks to a six game losing streak that just came to an end. The Musketeers could however, become a lock again with a win over DePaul in MSG. With and RPI in the top 30, and a SOS of eight along with twenty wins, the Musketeers are an ideal tournament team.
The rest of the Big East bubble could be locks already. However, to play it safe we will wait until St. Johns, DePaul, and Georgetown get knocked out so all of they possible chances of gaining a bad loss can disappear.
LOCKS: Maryland, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, Michigan
Yes we still believe USC is a lock. With over twenty wins and victories over SMU and UCLA they are in the field.
LOCKS: Arizona, Oregon, UCLA, USC
WORK LEFT TO DO: California
Cal has lost five of six, and could be out with a quick exit from the conference tournament.
LOCKS: Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas
AUTOMATIC BIDS: Wichita State (MVC)
LOCKS: Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s, SMU, Dayton, Middle Tennessee State
SHOULD BE IN: VCU
VCU is playing good basketball, and they need to avoid bad losses in the next few days.
WORK LEFT TO DO:Rhode Island, Nevada, Illinois State
Illinois State may have lost their chance after losing in the finals of their tournament to Wichita State. They need help now.
Nevada should win the Mountain West, but they most likely will not get an At-Large.
Rhode Island has some bad losses, and need to get a win over Dayton of VCU in tournament to make the committee think about them.
