Merry Christmahanakwanzika!
It is officially November, and that means it is officially CHRISTMAS!!!
This is honestly the best time of the year and if you disagree then don’t read the rest of this article. The Christmas season includes Thanksgiving so therefore it is the best holiday season. As I write this article, you already know I’m listening to some Bing Crosby “White Christmas” and have the Hallmark channel on watching some cliché Christmas movie. Some might ask, “Isn’t it too early?” My answer is short and simple. No. I’ll gladly why tell you why Christmas is coming early and why I love it.
Recently, the tristate area was hit with a wonderful cold front bringing sweatshirt season along with it. When I first heard about the low temperatures headed this way, I got an unbelievable tingly sensation in my body. The thoughts of cold winter nights wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants out by a fire ran through my mind. If those thoughts don’t excite you then I don’t know what does.
Now, usually I would rather be heading home from football on nights like this, but that is another story for another time. This time of year brings me motivation to finish my homework nice and quick so I can curl up in a ball with my dog, rascal, and just watch some classic holiday movies. Nothing better than cuddling with your pup am I right?! I know I am right.
To add on to that point, I am going to breakdown what are, in my opinion, the best holiday movies to watch during this beautiful season.
This is easily the number one holiday movie of all time. This classic, black and white movie will touch your heart every time you watch it. No matter what mood you are in, this movie will make you want to hug your family members and just tell them you love them. This long time classic is an easy movie to watch for all ages. It has some of the best lessons a person can learn. The movie has it all; drama, humor, love, and even some suspense. Even though the plot takes place during the Christmas season, you can watch this movie at any time of the year. For anyone wanting a good movie to watch, this should be at the top of your lists.
White Christmas or Holiday Inn
Now I may be a little biased, but Bing Crosby makes these movies great. For some reason, the early 1940’s just know how to make great movies. These two classics seem to go hand in hand with each other. The uplifting spirit these movies bring to you is just amazing. It will make you want to get up on your feet to sing and dance. There is just something about Bing’s voice that just makes me love Christmas music. You can either watch these movies in black and white or color. If you watch them in color, one thing to look out for is Bing’s insanely blue eyes. They are scary blue.
I don’t care how old you are, Charlie Brown will forever and always be a movie you can watch with the family. This movie is a classic “Sunday night, sitting by a fire with some popcorn” family event. If you say you’re too old for Charlie Brown, you are lying to yourself. Deep down, Charlie Brown and his gang will hold a special place in your heart. The message at the end of the movie is one for the history books. Plus who doesn’t love Snoopy? This movie is a MUST for the Christmas season.
I could go on and on about movies that fit this season but we would be here for a long time. As you can see, I love this season. Maybe I love it too much, but I don’t care. This season is the absolute best. I can’t wait for when people start putting up Christmas lights and other decorations.
The best Christmas tradition, however, is putting up a Christmas tree. The way it brightens the mood and spreads the spirit is just amazing to say the least. Whether it is a real tree or a fake one, decorating it as a family is one of the best things a family can do. It brings everyone together around one central idea and lets us reminisce on some good memories.
Make fun of me if you want, but I am still the kid that makes reindeer trail mix to throw out in front of my house so that Santa can find my house. I’m also the kid that still puts out cookies and milk the night before because it is tradition. This season makes me feel like a kid, and I love every second of it. Snow angels, sled riding, all of that just makes me happy. You can never be too old to celebrate a tradition.
To conclude my rant about why this season is the best, it is simply because no matter what you are going through, when December 25 hits, that morning makes you happy. It does not matter if you have 100 presents or just one; the season itself makes it great. The anticipation and excitement is what makes it so amazing. This season brings together families, makes strangers friends, and more importantly, makes our stressful lives seem a little simpler. So take my word for it, this season is by far the best.
