Bunbury- Smash or Pass?

People have differing opinions on this year's line-up

February 12, 2018

The Bunbury lineup has been released, and it has had some mixed reviews.

Senior Tyler Eshman called it a “pass” saying, “I like some of the people on it but more than half (of the people), I don’t even know.”

He commented that he liked the big names such as Post Malone, The Chainsmokers, Blink- 182, and the Dropkick Murphys. The only big name he left out of that list was Jack White.

Post Malone is one of the biggest names in music right now. His album Stoney was certified double platinum. His song “Congratulations” reached number eight on the billboard top 100. This was his second top 20 hit after “White Iverson”. These songs, along with his other hits are the reasons Eshman called him “one of the biggest names right now.”

The Chainsmokers are another huge name in music right now. Two of the Chainsmokers’ biggest songs are “Closer” and “Something Just Like This”. They are one of the five biggest names coming to Bunbury. But they are not as big as Post Malone. That is why Eshman described them as “good”.

Blink-182 is also one of the five main bands coming to Bunbury in 2018. Along with Incubus they are the two most popular rock bands coming in 2018. Blink-182 and Incubus were both rock bands formed in the 90’s that are still very popular. Blink seems to be slightly more popular only because they are the band people are talking about this year for Bunbury. Incubus has been the most often left out band when people are talking about the five big names coming to Bunbury. Eshman called Blink- 182 “pretty good” while he did not even list Incubus.

The only other band brought up during the interview was the Dropkick Murphys. Eshman described them as “an older band, but they’ve got some amazing songs.”

Eshman said he had not even heard of the other Bunbury act. That’s why he described it as both a downer and a pass.

It is $179 for a two tier pass. Eshman is not impressed. “You don’t really get much out of it. I would pay $100, maybe, if that. Maybe (I’ll) experience some new music. I mean the three-day VIP is $450, and that’s just absurd. That’s just terrible.”

This Bunbury is an expensive ticket for a lot of small names with a few big names sprinkled in. Eshman agrees that it would be a cool time, and that other people he has talked to that have gone have enjoyed it. Post Malone is one of the biggest names in music, and I think Bunbury put almost all of their eggs in one basketball by getting him there. “I think it’s really cool how they have Post Malone… I’m a little disappointed to be honest because with the price of the ticket you’re not really getting much out of it unless you like those other groups,” said Eshman.
