March Madness

One of the most exciting time of the year is coming for sports fans. March Madness is one of the most anticipated time of the year for basketball fans. All of the teams will be split up into seeds from the best 64 teams to the worst. The “Selection Sunday Show” will take place on March 11. Now I will be taking about the hopefuls to will it all and the surprise teams that could go deep into the tournament.

Kyle Guy shooting a three

The first team I will be talking about is Virginia who has a total record of 26-2 with wins over Duke, North Carolina, and Clemson. They are led by sophomore guard Kyle Guy who is averaging 14.5 point so far this season.

Virginia has the number one defense in the country which has only given up 1460 points this season. They are looking to make a very good push in the tournament. I believe that there defense is too much for everyone’s offense.

Another team that should make a big push into the tournament is Michigan State. They have had a history of making it to the final four. They have made it to the final four a total of nine times and have become NCAA tournament Champions twice.

They are led by sophomore Miles Bridges who is averaging 16.8 points per game. Michigan State is a team that has had some great games and also some terrible games, but they are clicking at the right time. They are obviously one of the best teams in the country who will continue to impress and win.

One surprise team that nobody thought would do anything is Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a record of 24-7 with a first year head coach in Chris Holtmann. Last year Ohio State lost some good players in Jaquan Lyle, and Marc Loving.

Bates-Diop driving to the basket

This year they finished second in the Big Ten lead by Kieta Bates-Diop who was named Big Ten player of the year and is a player of the year finalist. The Buckeyes are a risky team to pick for the bracket because of the new coach, but they should make a good run for the championship.

Another team who has been supervising a lot of people is Tennessee. They are usually known for their football, but there basketball team has shown the country that they are one of the best. They have some good wins over Kentucky and Purdue who also look to make good runs in the tournament.

Some hometown teams hoping to make runs in the tournament are UC and Xavier. UC is led by senior forward Gary Clark who is according to many people is a problem. The Bearcats are 27-4 and won the American Athletic Conference for the regular season beating Wichita State on March 4 by one with a score of 62-61.

Their team’s focus is defense; the only team they are behind for defensive efficiency is Virginia. The Bearcats should make a good run in the tournament because they have played a pretty tough schedule and they have proved that they can play with anyone in the country.

The Xavier Musketeers have always been at the top of the rankings because of how they are coached and motivated to do anything to win. They are led senior Trevon Bluiett who is averaging 19.4 points per game.

Also another key player for the Musketeers is another senior J.P. Macura. He is averaging 12.4 points per game. His stats don’t show it but his presence is a lot more valuable because of the hustle plays he shows throughout the game. Xavier is an obvious choice to pick because of how dominant they have been in recent years and especially this year.

King pumping up the crowd

A surprise team who has always been in the tournament, but for some reason makes runs is Middle Tennessee. The Blue Knights are led by Nick King who is averaging a total of 21.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He has been one of the most explosive players in Middle Tennessee history.

They have been a team who can almost guarantee and upset. Last year the 15th seed Blue Knights beat the 2nd seed Michigan State by a score of 90-81. As you can see Middle Tennessee is a team to watch out for. They are coached right and they have good players who can surprise a lot of teams by how athletic they are and how they are able to run up and down the court.

This year’s NCAA tournament is going to be great because of how even the field is. All of the teams in the tournament have good wins and bad losses. All of the teams are inconsistent so it all depends on what day it is and how each team feels. I think that every team that makes it into the tournament has a chance because of how the college basketball field has played out. Also to add to that I believe that one of the last seeds picked will have some upsets and make it far into the tournament.
