Cardi B. did what???
Cardi B. is no stranger to news and publicity. Her name has been seen in the news recently, not for her music career, but for her shady past. A recently surfaced Instagram video shows Cardi B saying that she used to drug and rob men. Now the internet is divided over whether or not to cancel her.
The video, which Cardi says was made three years ago, made its way onto Twitter last weekend and features Cardi reminiscing about the time when she worked as a stripper — a time when, she said, “I’d drug *****s up and I’d rob them.”
Cardi has since confirmed the video is real and apologized for it after it caused an uproar on social media. “I made the choices I did at the time because I had very limited options,” she wrote on an Instagram post on Tuesday, adding, “I have a past that I can’t change. We all do.”
The footage sparked the hashtag #SurvivingCardiB—a reference to the explosive docu-series about R. Kelly‘s alleged sexual abuse. Following calls for a boycott and criminal prosecution, the Invasion of Privacy rapper posted multiple tweets that appeared to dismiss the backlash.
There are some who have come out in defense for this female rapper. Offset voiced his support in favor of his wife, Cardi B. The Migos rapper took up to Twitter to defend the Bronx hip-hop star against critics who have cancelled her in the wake of her controversial comments. He kicked off his incoherent rant by stating,“Every bartender stripper with the dream of getting out the club it’s nun wrong with that but my wife help guide ur life to try to rap.” The “Bad and Boujee” rapper added that he’s “not talking ‘bout established artist like the legends and the ones before Cardi.”
One can try to take these comments as meaning that Cardi B. gave upcoming artists hope and paved the way for them.
Either way, Cardi B. should face some kind of punishment or consequence for her past crimes. Especially since celebrities like Aziz Ansari got crucified for being falsely accused of sexual harassment. It already seems like people are forgetting about Cardi B’s past which is extremely unfair to those who suffer from these kinds of tragedies every day and go unnoticed or are written off.
