With spring sports being delayed, due to the coronavirus, people are missing the big event everyone looks forward to in the spring; college baseball. In last years season, the Vanderbilt Commodores came out on top as the 2019 College World Series champions, after defeating Michigan by a score of 3-2 in game three of last year’s College World Series. For this article, I decided to do some research and see who are the top 3 all time rivalries in college baseball. The choices for top rivalry were very close, and this is what I came up with.

Coming in at #3, we have the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. This rivalry, better known as the Bedlam Series, began in 1935 when OU defeated OSU 9-6. Roughly 85 miles separate these two schools, and the rivalry has almost every Oklahoman supporting one or the other. In fact, it is very likely an OU and OSU fan will get married, and “a house divided” is created.

These two programs have placed 36 first-round picks in the MLB drafts, and have more and more skill coming in with every new season. The Cowboys are currently ahead in the all-time series 170-152, and also have won the last eight games of the series. This rivalry has been very intense over the years, and is well known for the Bedlam Brawl of 1989 and famous 18 inning, 6 hour game. The Cowboys were scheduled to host the Sooners on March 31st, but due to the Coronavirus, that game along with the rest of the season was cancelled.

At #2, the rivalry of the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks goes deep into the history of college baseball. This rivalry dates all the way back to 1899, and the Tigers currently lead the series 181-141. These two teams have always been noticeably top ranked in College Baseball, and have actually meet in the 2002 and the 2010 College World Series.

Both these teams are in the state of South Carolina, so just as Oklahoma/Oklahoma State, diversity in the state is well known for this baseball rivalry. Since 2010, these two teams play each other four times a year, two games at each team’s home field. This year, before the SEC suspended the rest of the season because of the Coronavirus, Clemson had won 2 of 3 games played. The world of college baseball will never know if the Gamecocks would have been able to tie up the series this season.

Now for the moment you all have been waiting for, *drum role*, coming in at #1 for the best all-time College Baseball rivalry is between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Mississippi “Ole Miss” Rebels.

This rivalry of the south has been played since 1893, with the Bulldogs on top with a lead of 232-188. College baseball in the south gets crazy in the spring, and both of these programs contain one of the most rowdy atmospheres in the country. The rivalry series has had a single neutral-site series since 1970, first known as the Mayor’s Trophy, than later in 2007 it was renamed the Governor’s Cup. Mississippi State is currently on a four game winning streak in the rivalry, and once again thanks to COVID-19, we will not know who would have won the 2020 matchup.
