World Series ends long drought for Atlanta
It ended up as the Braves vs the Astros.
They became the final two teams standing in the as the Astros beat the Red Sox in the ALCS and the Braves beat the Dodgers in the NLCS.
In the first game of the Series, the Braves got out to a strong lead with five runs through three innings. Charlie Morton got the start for them and in the bottom of the 3rd he had a ball come back and hit him in the leg. Charlie ended up finishing the inning and went 3.0 innings but after that, he went to get x-rays that showed he had a broken fibula. He had finished his outing with a broken fibula; his final out was Jose Altuve.
The Braves ended up taking game one with a 6-2 win. To start game two, the Braves got two runners on but scored zero runs. The Astros first batter, Jose Altuve started the ‘stros off with a double. Altuve ended up getting to third with 1 out and Alex Bregman hit a sacrifice flyout to center to put the Astros up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. They added two in the top of the second via Travis D’Arnaud. In the third inning, the Astros took control of the game and never looked back as they beat the Braves with a 7-2 score.
The series was tied 1-1 as they traveled to Atlanta for game three. Travis D’Arnaud got things started in the game with a bottom of the second double off the right field wall, but the Braves could not capitalize off the hit. But in the very next inning, the Braves had runners at second and first and Austin Riley hit a single down the third base line and they had scored first in game three. Through five innings, Ian Anderson the Braves pitcher had a no hitter going but they ended up taking him out before the start of the sixth inning.
The Astros had a runner at third base but could not take advantage as they did not score. In the bottom half of the eighth, Travis D’Arnaud hit a solo shot to dead center and the Braves ended winning the game with a 2-0 score.
The Astros scored first in game four as they had the bases loaded and Carlos Correa slowly grounded out to the third baseman Austin Riley. In the top of the fourth, Jose Altuve comes up to bat and sends it over the dead center wall to make it a 2-0 game. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Eddie Rosario hit a double to the right center gap and got the Braves started. As Austin Riley comes up to bat there is a runner on second and first and he hits an RBI double to left field and Eddie scores from second and the runner on first moves to third; the score is now 2-1. Dansby Swanson comes up to bat in the bottom of the seventh with one out and he sends the ball over the right field wall and ties the game up at 2. Jorge Soler comes up to bat after Swanson and hits a home run over the left field wall. The back to back homers from Swanson and Soler gives the Braves the lead at 3-2. The Braves won with that score and they returned to Atlanta for game 5 with Atlanta leading the series 3-1.
The Braves could win the World Series if they can win this game. To start the game the Astros can not send more than three batters up as they go three up three down. But the Braves come in and hit a grand slam for the first inning and lead the game 4-0. But in the top of the second the Astros have runners at first and second and Alex Bregman comes up to bat and hits an RBI double and it is now 4-1. With runners on second and third Martin Maldonado hits a sacrifice fly to center and the score is now 4-2. Swanson makes an error which allows Altuve to get to first. He ends up getting to second with a runner on first. So for Correa, there are runners on second and first. Correa hits a RBI double and the score now becomes 4-3. Yuli Gurriel comes up to bat with one out with a runner on second and third and hits a grouder to Swanson; he gets the easy out at first and the score is now 4-4. The Braves ended up getting out of it. In the bottom of the third, Freddie Freemna hits a solo homerun; 5-4 Braves. With the bases loaded AJ Minter the Braves reliver walks in the tying run. Merwin Gonzalez pinch hit for the Astros with bases loaded and got a bloop single to take the lead, 7-5 Astros. The Astros pretty much had control of this game and ended up winning 9-5.
The series went to Houston for game six and Atlanta is leading the series 3-2. In the top of third, Jorge Soler hits a monster three run home run. The ball went an estimated 446 feet and it came off the bat at 110 miles per hour. In the top of the fifth Swanson hit a two run homerun as the Braves lead 5-0. Soler is at first with Freddie Freeman up to bat and Freeman hits a RBI double off the left center wall and the Braves are up 6-0.
Freddie Freeman comes back up to bat in the seventh and he hits a homerun to left center field. Yullie Gurriel hits a ground ball to Dansby Swanson and Swanson throws the last out the Freeman and he puts the ball in his back pocket. And with that the Atlanta Braves win the game in the game with the final game being 7-0. They are your 2021 World Series Champions.
