Jennifer Lawrence is “Catching Fire”

Relatively unknown until recent years, Jennifer Lawrence has taken the movie industry by storm. In just four years, she managed to go from an obscure young actress to a globally known star.

Working in minor roles in the late 2000s, Lawrence first found success in the 2010 independent film Winter’s Bone. This critically acclaimed film featured an “incredible, starmaking performance” from the young actress, and made her the second-youngest person to ever be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar.

After this breakout role, Lawrence soon skyrocketed into stardom with 2011’s X-Men: First Class and The Hunger Games, both major box office successes.

In 2012, Lawrence proved her acting skills even further with her Academy Award-winning performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. Time’s Richard Corliss stated “The performances of these actors are reason enough to go. The reason to stay is Lawrence.” This film cemented her position as both a talented actress and a role model for young women around the world.

Now, the 23-year-old actress is in line for yet another Academy Award for her performance in David O. Russell’s American Hustle. Globe and Mail critic Liam Lacey said she is now “Hollywood’s most important presence in front of the camera.”

However, the attention she has received in the past few years is not entirely because of her acting skills. The main reason she has become so popular because of how different she is from the Hollywood ideal of what an actress should be.

The main reason Lawrence became so universally loved is how relatable she is. Instead of the glamorized Hollywood ideal, she is a “normal” girl from a middle-class upbringing. She wasn’t born into stardom, and she lacks the sense of arrogance shown by most movie stars.

In her interviews and public appearances, Lawrence doesn’t seem like a famous movie star. She’s generally somewhat awkward on camera, and she generally seems out of place in major Hollywood events. This lack of connection with “Hollywood culture” makes her much more relatable with the average person.

With her success in the movie industry, Lawrence has barely changed her personality at all. Though she is now a famous movie star, she still gives off the impression that she is just a normal person, just like anyone else.

Through both her acting skills and her relatable personality, Jennifer Lawrence has had a huge impact on the movie industry as a whole. In just four years, she has gone from obscurity to stardom, and there’s no telling what kind of impact she will have in the future.
