The Elder basketball team has had one of its better recent years in the 2021-2022 season.  Finishing the regular season with what could be a 17-3 record. This will be accomplished as long as they beat rival team St. X at home int he final game this Friday.

This wouldn’t just top off the season with a win, but give the Panthers a clean slate in the GCL!  They have already beat La Salle and Moeller at both the home and away and St. X in their own house.  The bombers on the flip side are in a bit of a slump.  Losing four of their last five games and their only win on the road.  In their last showing, they hosted Moeller and lost by three in double OT.  Still, that’s a tall order to be held.  Holding Mahaffey and company down isn’t a walk in the park.

The top key player to look out for will be Louie Semona.  He put up an impressive showing in the last game shooting 12-17 with 28 points, and an additional six rebounds.  It’s likely Elder puts Matt Menninger up to the task of guarding him.

On nights were he does take off, we’ve seen Jonny Vanover step up.  He ranks fifth in the GCL for scoring.  Who’s he behind do you ask? Only the best 3-point duo in the GCL!  Andrew Harp and Sean Keller have been dynamic this year dropping bucket after bucket.  They are two of the top four in GCL scoring.  Maybe this traces back to their grade school career together at St. Antoninus.  They combined for 23 last time Elder and X met which wasn’t so long ago.

Last of the key players is none other than Carson Browne.  At a whopping 6’-8”, he was able to get the ball through the hoop a few times last time.  Putting up 16 points, six rebounds, and probably a Elder top 10 all-time dunk.  The North Bend bombers will definitely be coming for revenge this Friday and to secure third place in the GCL.  Elder on the other hand will be bringing it all on their Senior night hoping too to get their third sweep on the year.

No matter what, you never know what could happen in an intense GCL game like this.  Drop a comment with your predictions for the big game.  Also, don’t wait to long to get your tickets as we hope to see a sold out game in the Elder Memorial Fieldhouse.
