Elder golfer Cayse Morgan has advanced to the state tournament.
The state tournament will be played at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course. It will take place on October 20-21.
Late season success
Cayse Morgan recently has played fantastic for the last three tournaments. He began his run of great play in the GCL Tournament. Cayse was trailing St. Xavier’s Luke Kahle by seven shots with forty-five holes remaining and he shot (-10) over his last 45 holes to win the title. Cayse’s final stroke average gave him back to back GCL Player of the Year titles, with a chance to three peat the GCL player of the year next season.
Cayse then played in sectionals at Miami Whitewater on October 4. He shattered the Elder record and Miami Whitewater record by shooting a 65 (-6). Cayse won by six strokes over the runner-up, who was teammate and senior captain, Mikey Schutte. The varsity team then advanced onto districts.
At districts, Cayse returned to Heatherwoode Golf Club where he had dominated at GCL’s. The top three individuals advance onto the state tournament in Columbus, OH. Cayse showed out again and shot a 68 to be ranked number one in the southwest individually. He won by two strokes over the runner-up from Moeller. The team unfortunately did not advance, but Cayse advanced to the state tournament individually.
On to State
The state tournament will be held at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course. It will take place on October 20-21. The Scarlet Course is rated the best collegiate facility in the country by Golf Digest. The course is located just northwest of the main campus. The Scarlet Course is a par 71. In 2005 and 2006, the Scarlet course underwent a major redesign overseen by former Buckeye legend and arguably the best golfer of all time, Jack Nicklaus.
One hole that stands out to many people when playing the Scarlet Course is hole sixteen. Hole sixteen is a short par four that requires accuracy but can reward the player with a valuable late round birdie.
Cayse previously played at the Scarlet Course in the State Tournament as a freshman with the Elder golf team in 2021. Cayse shot 81 on the first day and 82 on the second.
He finished in forty-second place, which is remarkable for a freshman, but he has his sights on a much better outcome this year,
Cayse is hoping to keep up his consistent and strong late-season play and bring back a great result to Elder High School.
