On January 19, 2025 a cease-fire agreement was signed between Hamas and the Israeli government. This event happening on the last day of Biden’s presidency was made possible only with the help of both administrations. The plan was the same exact one that President Biden pushed for in May of last year. Yet new pressure from President Trump may have been what pushed the deal over the finish line. This is an example of what America could be if the parties worked together.

President Joe Biden had 50 years of service in Washington D.C. He entered the senate in 1972 and soon became known for his expertise in foreign policy. Biden served on the Senate Foreign Relation committee for twelve years and when President Obama chose Biden to be his Vice president a New York Time headline read, “Obama’s pick adds foreign expertise to ticket”.
When Biden was trying to prove his mental acuity after the June 27 debate, his first large speech was on military affairs. Biden knew foreign policy backward and forward. He understood the players and their motives yet he always seemed to be hesitant. When Obama was choosing whether or not to raid Osoma Bin Laden’s home, Vice President Joe Biden famously said that they should not. He was concerned about the fact that it may not be Bin Laden’s home. Luckily Obama chose to strike and we killed Bin Laden that night.
He also was hesitant in his Presidency; he clearly did not like Israelis actions in the middle east but never took any action to stop it. When he was asked about Iran shooting ballistic missiles into Israel he said , “ Don’t”. That night Iran shot 200 ballistic missiles at Israel. Putin invaded Ukraine during the Biden Presidency despite him warning Putin not to. Net his plans for foreign policy would have brought us to a much more peaceful world.
On the other hand President Donald Trump has always been known as an amazing deal maker. He wrote “The Art of the Deal” in 1987. He started the hit TV show “The Apprentice” centered around the idea of deal making. In his first term in office he became the first president to ever enter North Korea. He has very close relations with Vladimir Putin and he negotiated the Abraham Accords which was a middle east peace deal. Yet he had never been good with logistics and understanding these complex issues. He had no experience in foreign policy and it often shows. Yet his time in business has often persevered in helping him create peace.
So when the Israeli-Hamas war had been raging for a year and a half. There were tens of thousands dead from Gaza and Israeli hostages trapped by Hamas. It was time for both presidential administrations to come together. Joe Biden used his foreign policy knowledge by drafting up a peace deal that both parties could agree to. While Donald Trump pressured both parties with his negotiating tactics to make a deal and saying it needed to be before he was inaugurated. This led to the stopping of one of the most horrific conflicts in recent history.
There is nothing America can’t do if we work together. There are children alive today, hostages back with their families, and U.N aid in Gaza because we worked together. We put aside stupid differences and made something great happen. I truly believe that this deal would not have been made without both presidents’ help. So that is why we need to put down partisan differences and work together because this is what made our country great.
