Fight of the Century
Boxing has always been an American Pastime. From the greats of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Mike Tyson. Boxing has slowly declined over the years and now a days you can only find it on HBO for around 50 bucks. It has slowly been on the rise as of late, and boxing may be taking the sports world by storm.
The fight that every boxing fan has been waiting for is finally here. Floyd “Money” Mayweather is taking on Manny Pacquiao for what some see as the “Fight of the Century.” Mayweather is an undefeated five-division world champion and Pacquiao is an eight-division world champion.
The fight will happen on May 2, 2015 and will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and has a perfect record of 47-0 with 26 knockouts. He stands 5 ft. 8 in. and weighs in at 147 pounds and has an orthodox style of boxing. Manny Pacquiao is from General Santos, Philippines, he was a record of 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts. He stands 5 ft. 6 in. weighing 147 and is a southpaw fighter.
This fight could be one of the richest fights in the history of boxing and experts are saying it could generate around $300 million dollars. Tickets to the fight range from $3,500, all the way up $250,000 dollars.
With Mayweather being undefeated Pacquiao has his hands full. He has started training and is getting his game plan ready. Mayweather relies on his defense and this is the focal point for Pacquiao. He plans to be ready for the defense that Mayweather brings to the table.
Some say that this “super fight” could save the world of boxing. Families used to be entertained by boxing three to four times a week. Now it is very rare when you see boxing on television. You can only find it on HBO or a network that you must pay for.
If a network could work out a contract maybe they could get boxing on television without having to pay for it. This would be an enormous step in bring boxing back to where it was in the fifties. People miss boxing and the flare it brought to TV, this fight can bring boxing back to the world.
