King James graces Queen City
To put it simply, the Cintas Center was electric October 7 for the Cavaliers-Hawks preseason game. The game was highly entertaining, as was the atmosphere around it.
To my surprise, LeBron actually played more than just one quarter, logging 22 minutes and finishing with eight points on 3/13 shooting along with seven boards and five assists. LeBron may not have shot well from the field, but his presence alone was enough to keep the crowd energized.
Also energizing the crowd was the sheer number of celebrities at the game. The first celebrity I noticed was Bengals cornerback Adam Jones. Jones seemed to be having a blast, taking every chance he could to interact with fans. During halftime, Jones got up and visited with Atlanta Hawks Hall-of-Famer Dominique Wilkins and fellow Bengals teammates Vontaze Burfict, Greg Little, and Wallace Gilberry.
However, the most famous fan of the night was clearly Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Upon seeing him on the megatron, the crowd erupted, shocked to see that he came to Cincinnati just for an NBA preseason game.
Although the play was a bit ragged with it being the first preseason game for both teams, it was great seeing the NBA return to the Queen City. Whether it was LeBron taking a selfie with the crowd during a timeout, 35 year-old Richard Jefferson throwing down an absolute tomahawk, or Matt Dellavedova pinballing his way through traffic, the Cintas Center loved it.
In the end, the Hawks ended up winning the game 98-96. However, the real winners tonight were clearly the fans.
