NBA 2K16 hits the shelves
It’s about that time of year again when new video games are being released left and right. One of the more popular games that comes out with a new edition every year is NBA 2K. This year there are some new features and teams that have been added to the game.
One of the major features is the inclusion of college teams in the game. This is the first time since 2010 that gamers will be able to play with some of their favorite collegiate teams
I asked junior Ryan Ruehl, who already owns the game if he could tell me how the college teams were incorporated into the game. He told me that the teams can only be used in the myCareer mode. Playing for a college team is just another step to the NBA for the player that is created.
However, teams that can be used are limited, as only a few schools allowed 2k to use their teams in the game. Even after this your choices may be limited by your performance in the game.
Before you can use a college team you have to play four high school games. “If you play well, you can go to schools like UK or Duke, but if you play a little worse, you’ll get offers from, UConn or Louisville,” Ruehl told me.
Another headline that was made by the game was the addition of some new throwback teams. NBA 2k decided to add some of the most recent teams to dominate the league to the list of useable teams. Among these teams are the 2003-02 Dallas Mavericks, 2007-08 Boston Celtics and 1999-2000 Toronto Raptors. Ruehl told me that he was most excited to play with the 2000-01 Los Angeles Lakers.
I also decided to ask my most heated rival, my younger brother Zach which throwback team he was most excited to play with. He said that he wanted to play with the 2012-13 Miami Heat because “they were the best team in the league when they played.”
Then there are the current teams that can be used. Zach told me that he plans on using the Golden State Warriors when he plays against me because he’s going to “rain 3 pointers.” I highly doubt that bro, highly doubt that.
There will be a tournament for the game at Elderfest just like there has been the last few years. Ruehl has made a great run in the event both years that he has participated but has yet to win it. This year he claims it will be different. He told me that he is “done messing around” and is “guaranteeing a championship this year.”
We’ll see if Ryan can pull it off when the time comes, but until then he and all of his competition will be training by playing the game throughout the upcoming months.
