Elder-X recap
Last Friday night, October 4th the Panthers defeated the bombers for the first time since 2003 at St. X’s home field. It was the biggest win for Elder yet this season. Starting off with a 1-0 record in the GCL South, winning the South division looks bright for the Panthers as they go into a game against Moeller this Friday.
The first quarter started off close with a tie game of 3-3. Matt Murray made the first field goal of the game (26 yards) followed by a field goal from the bombers kicker Trevor Bechtold (23 yards). The next scoring drive was late into the second quarter, with senior running back, Chris Schroer rushing for a 3 yard touchdown. St. X took the ball down the field only to be intercepted by Johnny Lammers. The Panthers went into halftime with a 10-3 lead.
Elder really turned it on in the second half only allowing X with one scoring run early in the third quarter. At a tied game of 10-10 the Panthers answered on their next drive by a 42 YD TD pass to Austin Cipriani from sophomore quarterback, Peyton Ramsey. Later into the third, Murray kicked another field goal to put the Panthers up 20-10. The fourth quarter was mainly all defense, with Murray once again kicking a field goal putting the Panthers up 23-10. This was the final score of the game giving Elder the win.
The game will forever be remembered by all the players and students who were there. It ended a four game losing streak for the Panthers against the bombers and put them in great position to win the GCL South. A majority of the students believe that the game was one of the most exciting games they have seen from Elder.
The Panthers look to continue the streak in the GCL this Friday night against the Moeller Crusaders. Moeller is 6-0 this season with a 2-0 record in the GCL.
