Elder Soccer is on the rise

The Panthers have a chance to do something that hasn’t been done at Elder in over a decade.

The Elder Soccer team is back.

This could be the year where they can make some noise come playoffs. A little over halfway through the season the Panthers find themselves with a respectable 7-2 record.

Their first loss came @ St. X on September 3. That was a tough game with St. X scoring two goals in the last 90 seconds of the game. “We gotta shake that off,” goal keeper Kyle Dressman said.

They quickly forgot about the heartbreaking loss on North Bend, beating Moeller the very next week.

“We have a good team, they have a good team. It was a hard-fought game. And you know, proud of the guys. Our guys did a really good job tonight. They’ve done a great job.” These were Coach Gray’s comments to Cincinnati.com writer Scott Springer. The win at Moeller was the first time anyone from the city has beaten Moeller at home.

The second half of the Elder Soccer season is nothing short of a big test. The good thing is that most of the games are at home. “The GCL South Championship is still up for grabs,” Connor Ammon said. St. Xavier is 2-0 in GCL play this season while Moeller and Elder are tied for 2nd with a record of 1-1. Elder hosts a struggling LaSalle team Tuesday night at The PAC.

I am a huge fan of the Elder Soccer team entering my second year as the team video guy. I have seen many games and many emotions. The excitement for Elder soccer is the highest I have seen it.  The seniors’ dedication to the program is finally paying off as they have a shot at GCL this year. Elder soccer has not won The GCL South outright since the 2007 season. To say we are overdue is an understatement.

Connor Ammon kicks in the Moeller game last week.

According to the GCL Soccer stats page, we have the two top scorers in the league, Connor Ammon with 7 and Carson Owens right behind with 6. The Panthers are hoping the final push to the end of the regular season is good to them. Plenty of games are up for grabs across the GCL South schedule. Plenty of home games to get on out to the PAC and show the Panthers your support!
