Covid-19 has impacted all our lives in many ways.

It has affected the way we go to school and even how we play sports. The MLB recently finished their season within the pandemic, but it ended with a controversial ending.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays in game six. During this game Justin Turner, the Dodgers third basemen, was removed by the MLB for testing positive for the coronavirus. He had to leave the game and was not allowed to return. After the Dodgers won, he was seen on the field celebrating with his teammates and even hugging players. Many people were upset by this action and expected the MLB to discipline him.

The MLB began an investigation into the matter shortly after. “Major League Baseball completed its investigation into Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner’s behavior following Game 6 of the World Series on Friday” via CBS Sports. Turner also issued a statement apologizing for his actions and attempting to justify them.

But did he deserve to get a punishment? I believe so and this is because we are in unprecedented times and he was putting others in harms way. I think that it was very immature of him and even going out there at the end without a mask on. If you are going to go out there with a virus, at least have a mask on.

USA Today stated “The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays are under self-quarantine at their respective homes after Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was notified Tuesday he had tested positive for COVID-19, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation.” This means he also affected the lives of all those around him too. These men just stayed in a bubble basically for 60+ games and are ready to see their family and live their lives but now they must quarantine because someone was careless. Some people say that it is okay because he just won a World Series and he let the emotions get the best of him like anybody would, but I still do not believe that gives him an out.

Allie Beruba posted a video on Twitter of Turner next to a man on the field with the caption “The man to Justin Turner’s right is a cancer survivor. JT tested inconclusive for COVID-19 Monday & positive Tuesday. He was asked not to go on field to celebrate but insisted on it. I don’t get how the Dodgers or MLB will talk their way out of this one.” This is exactly why I believe it was so foolish of him to be out there. There is a man next to him that could die if he catches this virus.

These are the reasons why I believe the MLB made a mistake with not disciplining Turner. Do you think he should have been disciplined?
