“There’s no such thing as a bad playoff team. Every team that makes it to the postseason deserves to be there.” – David Ortiz.
The atmosphere in games in October is no joke. First off, Baltimore was not swept all season then gets swept in the first round of the playoffs. The Mets where not even supposed to be in the playoffs until Grimace showed up and they the have the best record in baseball. Jesse Winker gets thrown out vs the Mets then comes back and hits a game tying double. Pete Alonso hit a 3-run go ahead home run in the 9th inning.
Detroit has not been in a decade going against the Astros who have been unreal. In game 2, it’s tied in the bottom of the eight and the Astros bring in Josh Hader. Then Ibanez hit a base clearing triple to put Detroit up 5-2 and the Tigers move on with a bunch of nobodies and the best pitcher in baseball Derick Skubal. But Detroit magical run ends to another small market team Cleveland.
Clevleand plays the winner of the Yankees vs Royals. Aaron Judge was a no show. Royals’ fans did not like Jazz Chisholm, Jr. because after losing the game he said they were just lucky. Stanton went off. The Yankees were leading the series 2-1 and in game 3 the Yankees were up by 3 and in the 9th inning the Royals scored 2 runs, but feel they fell short.
Phillies played the Mets. In the first game, first at bat, Schwarber hit a bomb but then did not get another hit until the 8th inning and won game 1. Then in game 2 it was hitting fest tied 6-6. Castellanos hits a walk off double winning game 2. Then the Mets smoked the Phils in game 3. Game 4 the Phils were winning the by 1, then gave up a 2-run homer.
Then one of the most heated rivalries in baseball happened, Dodgers vs Padres. At the start of game one the Padres start up 3 to nothing. Then Otani hits 3-run homerun, and the Dodgers go on to win game 1. Then in game 2, Betts goes yard but is robbed. Tatis goes yard; then the game gets chippy. Dodgers’ fans start throwing things on the field. Tatis went yard again; Padres hit six home runs. Then in game 3, the Padres smoke the Dodgers. Then in game 4 the Dodgers smoked the Padres, forcing a game 5. In that game, the Padre’s offense was sleeping, and they lost giving the series to the Dodgers.
The World Series was the Yankees versus the Dodgers, and it was the most watched Series because of Japan. Roughly 18 million people watched; it was on at 9 am. This matchup is the most common in Series history, happening 11 times. But this is the first time in 43 years.
In game 1 the Dodgers won; Freddy Freeman goes yard for 3-run homer and wins the game in the 10th. Then in game 2 Freeman goes yard again, but the Dodgers win the game 4-2 in a pitcher’s dual.
The Dodgers win again going up 3-0. Then the Yankees woke up and Volpe hits a grand slam and they win game 4, 11-6. Then the Dodgers bounce back from a 5-run deficit and score 5 unearned runs and will game 5 and the series.
My top three players from this postseason are Freddy Freeman, Giancarlo Stanton, and Mookie Betts. Freeman had a batting average of .244 with 10 hits, 2 homers, 6 RBIs, and 3 runs scored in 10 games1. Across 16 postseason games, he slashed .304/.420/.625 with a 1.045 OPS, collecting three doubles, five home runs, and 11 RBI to lead Los Angeles to a World Series win. Stanton had a .300 batting average with 9 hits, 4 home runs, 9 RBIs, and 5 runs scored in 8 games1. His 1.009 OPS through 32 playoff games ranks 10th in history, and his hard-hit rate of 46.4% is second only to Jason Giambi. Stanton was named the ALCS MVP. Betts batted .295 with 13 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored in 11 games in the 2024 postseason.
