Elder tennis has always been regarded as a lesser sport. The season being during the more popular baseball season takes away from the accomplishments of the team. Even despite this Elder Tennis has some very exciting new talent this year and are expected to outperform last season’s standards. With two freshman additions to the varsity team and an all-time high in turnout for tryouts the team looks set for the next few years.
Senior Alex Coffman has been a member of the varsity team for two years and is very pleased with the direction of the team. He says that the team will be better than last year on and off the court, stating how the team has already participated in several off court activates together as a team bonding experience. “The team is looking sharp and were all getting along well.” says Alex. He feels that this year will be “peak” and is happy with the group of guys he gets to spend his senior year with.

Another member of the team, Lincoln Edwards, feels very similar to Alex. He says, “The tennis team has always kind of been looked down on, but I feel we could make a change this year.” It appears that the team consensus is that everything is looking green for the tennis team. Yet not only varsity is shaping up to be competitive but also the JV team.
The JV team has members such as Finley Lyman, Aston Gould, and Johnathan Knepfle who are all very exciting prospects. These are not the only players who are expected to make an impact later in their career. The team is very deep and has a lot of talent and the talent only keeps growing.

This year was one of the highest turnouts for tryouts. Twenty-six kids came to tryouts this year almost doubling the number of players who tried out last year. Tennis is becoming a popular sport to try if the student has nothing else to do during the spring season. Many athletes are coming to the sport and improving the team.
The atmosphere around the tennis team has become a lively one. Many on the team believe good things are in the future. Many new talents are within the ranks and ready to jump at the opportunity of varsity. The student body is becoming more aware of tennis as a sport and are becoming more willing to try it out. In all tennis is becoming a competitive sport at Elder. The tennis team could be a competitive team this year and will most definitely compete in future years. Elder tennis is the team that’s next up.
