Second half surge leads to Panther victory
As week eight of the 2012 football season arrived, the Panthers had no doubt in their mind that they were going to win even after an “okay” week of practice. They had momentum on their side from the big win over Moeller. The Panthers were back at home as they took on the Winton Woods Warriors. The game started out slowly as no one scored in the first quarter, but the Warriors struck first in the second with a touchdown run. But Elder battled back, and Jimmy White ran for a touchdown to tie the game before halftime. The Panthers started the second half on fire as Chris Schroer ran for an explosive 80-yd touchdown run on the first series. After the ensuing kickoff, the Warriors fumbled the ball away, and Elder recovered. Within minutes Schroer had his second rushing TD as he ran it in from four yards out. Winton Woods scored again with a 57-yd rushing touchdown. But Schroer countered with his third touchdown run to push the Panthers’ lead back to 14. The defenses held and the final score was 28-14 Panthers. This was another game that ended up being a “W”. Schroer was named Player of the Week on Channel 5 for his 3 touchdown performance. This week, the Panthers look to defeat perennial powerhouse Highlands from northern Kentucky.
