Cam Newton is making dreams come true
NFL superstar Cam Newton isn’t just making fans happy on the field, but off the field as well.
Most know Cam for his ability to perform on the football field or his insane dances when he reaches the end zone. What most people don’t know is that Cam goes out of his way to make little kids seem like they can do anything. After Cam either throws a touchdown pass or runs it in for a score, he will get the ball and find a Panther fan, usually a little kid, and he will give the kid the ball.
The camera is usually kept on the little kid to show his reaction and those are some of the biggest smiles I’ve ever seen. When going to a professional game, a little kids goal is to always come home with a souvenir. That souvenir is usually a ball, whether it be a football or baseball, or in some cases a basketball. for those few seconds, that kid feels like he is the most important kid in the world. It’s cool to see those kids big smiles when they run back to their parents to show them.
Cam not only distributes football’s to kids but he makes their biggest dreams come true. For most kids, it is the most memorable time in their life. A few days before Halloween, Cam decided to crash a block party set up for 10-year-old Elijah Aschbrenner, a boy who has a rare form of cancer called epithelioid sarcoma. Elijah and all his friends were all shocked when they saw Cam show up. Newton didn’t come empty handed to say the least, bringing with him an ice cream truck and 22 boxes of Elijah’s favorite dessert, brownies from Papa John’s Pizza. A few days earlier, he called Elijah on the phone just to talk with him and try to boost his spirits. No one knew Cam would actually show up to the party. Becky Hughes, Elijah’s mom, said she started bawling as soon as she saw Newton walk in.
“I just lost it, knowing he was a busy guy but he took time out on a Friday night to come and see Elijah? I started crying, and he was like, ‘Dry it up, Momma!'” she recalled with a chuckle. Knowing all the kids were going to flock to him, Cam made sure he could get some one-on-one time with Elijah before having fun with everyone there.
“It was an absolutely magical night,” Hughes told TODAY. “It was emotional to see everyone come together for Elijah, just knowing how much he loves Halloween. It was one of those nights that none of us will ever forget, and it meant the world to us.”
Newton also brought dinner for the event, including steak, shrimp and various sides such as mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Cam didn’t come alone, he also brought defensive tackle Colin Cole, who has long supported Elijah’s battle, came with a video-gaming truck.
Some say Cam Newton is all about himself when he does his dances in the end zone and in some aspects, it may be a little much but you can’t blame the guy for having a little fun. When he goes out and does something as awesome as this, the guy should earn some respect from almost everyone that sees it. I enjoy watching Cam play on Sundays but I love seeing him going out of his way to make some kids day. Props to you Cam.
