Top 5 TV Shows

Many people have shows that they like to binge watch, but there seems to be a favorite show that we would watch over anything. New shows come out every year, but I like to stick with my favorites until I finish them.

I know some people might ask why they would want to read about my top five favorite shows, but if you do read this then maybe you’ll be intrigued to start watching a show on this list. I will go into detail about the shows while keeping it brief so it doesn’t give too much away. Also, my top five aren’t the common top fives like The Office, Breaking Bad, or The Walking Dead, so you’ll probably read about a show that you don’t know.

5. Grey’s Anatomy

The Grey’s Anatomy gang

Now personally I didn’t think that I would’ve like or ever watched Gray’s Anatomy, but I was bored one night and gave it a shot. At first, I wasn’t too sure if I’d watch another episode but then I started to get into the story line. I’m sure most people have heard of Grey’s Anatomy and know how it’s a medical show, but in my opinion it’s a good mix between the medical standpoint and everyday things like, character building and relationships.

I never really liked medical shows because they can be ‘too medical’, like the show is too busy with entertaining the viewer with injuries and surgery rather than growing the story line. I’ve heard that Code Black can be this way at times but I’m not sure because I haven’t given it a watch. Grey’s Anatomy is about a group of young doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, who began their careers at the facility as interns. They are assigned to the resident know as ‘The Nazi’. One intern is Meredith Grey and she is basically the show’s main character. She struggles to keep her relationships with her colleagues private and even more so toward the head of surgery Richard Webber, due to an old relationship between Webber and Meredith’s mother. So, if you are ever bored and have nothing to do, give Grey’s Anatomy a watch and see how you like it.

4. Blue Mountain State

Blue Mountain State is a good old classic show in the football genre. I knew I’d like it just from the first episode I saw. It’s more of a comedy show then a football show because there aren’t really any football games shown but the story line is out of this world. The show is by far one of the funniest shows out there, in my opinion. While it did just recently get removed from Netflix, that won’t stop me from watching it again at some point down the road. Now let’s talk about what Blue Mountain State really is about. It’s about a fictional university, Blue Mountain State, and its football team, the “Mountain Goats”. Its story line portrays what life is like at an American university, including American football, sex, binge drinking, drugs, wild partying, and hazing. The football team is coached be Marty Daniels, but the up and coming star (main character) quarterback Alex Moran prepares for action in slightly odd ways.  Radon Randell the running back has a huge ego and his outrageous behavior is really different. But the slick-with-the-ladies Alex is satisfied with his second-string status and partying with his buddy Sammy, the Goats’ beloved mascot. This show is based on a second-string quarterback who likes to party (maybe a little too much), but he doesn’t really want to be a starter because that would mean more work for him. So, if you are looking for a funny, raunchy, college show to watch give Blue Mountain State a go.

3. Big Mouth

Some might know that I like Big Mouth already due to a previous review published on this site. But Big Mouth is more like a “family guy, south park”, cartoony type of show. Even though its sort of cartoony its still an adult show due to all the references and scenes throughout the show. As I said in my previous article ‘Open wide for Big Mouth’, “Big Mouth follows a group of kids in the seventh grade going through puberty and learning all about the new things that comes with it. Big Mouth really has no limits and it doesn’t care about boundaries, everything is allowed when you’re watching this show.” The show really doesn’t have any limits and I think that’s what everyone likes about it, I mean I’m not the only one who thinks it’s one of the best TV shows around. Big Mouth has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is Netflix’s highest-rated animated show as of now. I am super excited for season 3 to come out on Netflix, which is expected to debut Friday, October 4th 2019. Now this is a TV show I highly recommend you give a watch because I think the way Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, Andrew Goldberg, and Jennifer Flackett (producers of the show) did a great job in the making of Big Mouth.

2. Shameless

Where do I start? I think the first time I watched an episode of Shameless I was a freshman in high school, so ninth grade. Let me say; It blew out any show I’ve ever watched up to that point because its like a reality, comedy, and drama all in one. The way the episodes are put together is unbelievable because it seems that everything just falls into place. But right when you think you know what’s going to happen next, they hit you with a curve ball and something completely new and unseen shows up. I feel like that is what made me love this show, not knowing what will happen next just leaves me wanting more and guessing what’s going to come next. Shameless is about a single father (Frank Gallagher) of six who spends much of his free time drinking at bars. The Gallagher children, Ian, Lip, Carl, Liam, Debbie, and Fiona are taking care of by the oldest daughter Fiona Gallagher, who takes on much of the kids’ responsibility due to her mother’s (Monica) absence and Frank’s absence due to alcoholism. But the kids manage to do the best they can in school, at work (to pay for their house) and in other activities. If you are wanting a show to binge watch I’d say you should consider Shameless. In my opinion, Shameless is a show that can take you ‘into the screen’ and sort of live their lives. It’s a great show, but it isn’t my all time favorite anymore thanks to the next and final show on the list.

1. The 100

The 100 cover

Where the h, e, double hockey stick do I even start? My all-time favorite show out there! The 100 is an outstanding series that everyone needs to watch at least once in their lifetime. One night I was scrolling through Netflix to find something new to watch, then on the right hand of the screen I saw the title ‘The 100’ and I got curious. I wanted to know why it was called The 100 and what it was about. Clicking on The 100 was one of my greatest decisions I’ve ever made, and let me tell you why. The 100 is about a nuclear Armageddon destroying civilization on Earth, but the only survivors are those on the 12 international space stations in orbit at the time. Three generations later, the 4,000 survivors living on a space ark of linked stations see their resources about to run out and they face desperate measures trying to ensure humanity’s future.

They will float (killing convicted people by sending them into space without protection) anyone who tries to take more food, water, oxygen (yes oxygen), etc. Desperately looking for a solution, the ark’s leaders send 100 juvenile prisoners back to the planet (Earth) to test its habitability. Having always lived in space, the exiles find the planet fascinating and terrifying, but with the fate of the human race in their hands, they must forge a path into the unknown. The background of The 100 was used from Google (on the right side). If that description doesn’t intrigue you, are you even human? Everything in the show is great and there aren’t any flaws in the show except the wait for a new season to come out. The concept of 100 juvenile prisoners being sent down to earth from space (the only home they’ve ever known) is just mind blowing. Many people don’t like to do thing out of the normal in real life, but that doesn’t even compare to what the 100 juveniles go through.

If I went any longer I would go to far in depth and tell you to much about the show, and I want you to find out yourself. I could write a 10-page article all about The 100 but I’m not here to do that. So, if you are looking for a TV show that will absolutely blow your mind away and send it to Mars, watch The 100. It’s a banger!  It’s the best damn show on this planet and I can’t explain in words how much I love this show. So, I leave you with this; if you don’t like The 100 I’m not sure if you are a human being or just a awesome show hater.
