Tucked along Glenway Avenue in Cincinnati sits Zorbas Greek Restaurant, a small family-owned spot that’s been serving authentic Greek Cuisine since 2008. From the outside, it is a simple blue and white sign and a few tables by the window, with a glowing open sign, but once you step inside, you’re hit with the smell of grilled meat, warm pita bread, and roasted garlic. For many people in the area, Zorbas isn’t just a place to eat. It’s a place that feels like home.
My first time going to Zorbas Gyros was on a Wednesday afternoon, when the restaurant wasn’t very busy. The only sights other than the counter to order were a few gentlemen finishing up their meals. A worker greeted us at the counter with a warm smile. As always, the menu was packed with all the Main Greek Classics: juicy gyros, Greek sausage, and Greek Salads. It also consisted with a few sides such as loaded Greek fries and a plethora of desserts such as Baklava, Chocolate Baklava, and Kataifee, which all consist of layered honey and walnuts. It was hard to choose, but I went with the classic gyro, freshly sliced lamb and beef wrapped in warm pita, topped with tomato, onion, and creamy tzatziki sauce.

When the food came to the table it looked just like the picture I had seen on the website. The gyro was stuffed to the brim, the fries were crispy and seasoned, and the tzatziki was cool, sweet, and tangy. I took the first bite and immediately found out why people kept coming back to this place. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the pita was soft but had a little bit of char giving it some crunch. You could tell everything was made fresh and to order. It was one of those meals where every bite tasted better than the last.
Zorbas isn’t just about gyros, though. Their menu includes standout options like Pistachio (Greek Lasagna), Souvlaki (Greek Kabobs), Grape Leaves Dinner (Stuffed Grape Leaves), and a Fisherman’s Platter. The flavorful dishes that highlight traditional Greek flavors, even with the veggies and chicken. The sides such as the Greek fries, loaded Greek fries, Greek nachos, and hummus add a nice supplement to your meal. One favorite among regulars is the Greek Sausage Sandwich, a juicy homemade Zorba’s secret recipe sausage served on a pita bread and topped with gyro meat, tomato, onion and a side of tzatziki sauce. Best paired with their signature Greek fries. Together, they make a combination that’s hard to beat.
What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere. Even though it was quiet that day, the place still felt warm and welcoming. The staff talked casually with customers, and you could tell they cared. It doesn’t feel like a big cooperation chain, it felt personal. We had no rush to order or leave, especially after our long day at school. It’s the kind of spot where you can take your time, enjoy your food, and feel comfortable. Greek flags hang on the walls, and photos of the Greek islands add a splash of color and culture. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done, and that’s what makes it stand out.
Now for the prices, they are very reasonable. Most meals are around $13 to $17, which makes it perfect for students, families, or anyone who wants a fresh meal without spending too much. I think it was a big bang for my buck and I will be visiting again.
As I finished my meal, I couldn’t resist trying some of the desserts. Even though I couldn’t try due to allergies my friends tried the Baklava. They said it was flaky, sticky, and sweet and was the perfect ending to a flavorful lunch. Everything about the experience felt genuine, from the homemade taste to the way the owner thanked us as we left.
Zorba’s Greek Restaurant might not be the biggest or flashiest place in Cincinnati, but it’s one of the most welcoming. With its authentic recipes and delicious food made from scratch, it’s no wonder customers keep coming back. If you’re ever on the west side or even driving down Glenway consider giving it a try. You’ll walk in hungry and leave full and with a smile on your face.
