Goodfellas is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time and my favorite mob movie. I have seen many movies about gangsters, but this one is the best because it feels so real. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it tells the story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia over thirty years. Unlike other movies that make the mob look like a fancy royalty, Goodfellas shows how messy and dangerous it actually is.

One of the coolest things about the movie is how authentic it is. It is based on a true story from the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi. The real Henry Hill actually worked with the filmmakers to make sure the details were right. Even the way they talk and the things they eat are based on real mafia life. It makes you feel like you are right there with them in the 1950s and 60s.

I really like how the movie shows the rise and fall of Henry Hill because it gives you a clear look at how the mob actually works. At first, you see the rise, where Henry gets all the perks of being a gangster, like having lots of money, fancy clothes, and never having to wait in line at clubs. It looks like a great life where everyone respects you. But then, the movie shows the fall, which is much scarier. As things go wrong, you see the dark side of the mafia, like the constant paranoia, the drug addiction, and the fact that your best friends might kill you just to stay safe. By the end, Henry has to give up everything and join the Witness Protection Program, proving that mob life eventually destroys everyone involved.

I also love how the movie has funny scenes, even though it is a serious crime film. My favorite part is the famous “funny how” scene. In this scene, Henry tells Tommy he is a funny guy, and Tommy acts like he is really offended. It gets very quiet and scary because you don’t know if Tommy is going to get violent. Then, he starts laughing and says he was just joking. This scene was actually improvised by the actors, which makes the nervous laughter from the other characters feel very real. 

I also think the characters are the best part of the movie. Robert De Niro plays Jimmy Conway, who is the leader and very cool but also scary. Joe Pesci plays Tommy DeVito, who is a “loose cannon” and crazy. He even won an Oscar for this role because he was so good at being terrifying. The way these two characters work together shows why they were such a successful and dangerous team.

Overall, Goodfellas is a masterpiece. It has great acting, a fast pace, and a story that keeps you interested the whole time. If you like crime movies, you’ll love this one.
