Back to the Future: Air Mags

Nike releases the shoes featured in the movie

Back to the Future: Air Mags

October 21, 2015: This is the date that Marty McFly went into the future and visited in Back to the Future Part II (there was also Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part III) There he tried to prevent his future son from going to prison. However, there are no new sequels to talk about. This article is about the fact that Nike is releasing the shoes that he wore in the film: Nike Air Mags.

The film was centered on the future and aspects of the future that the writers thought would be true at some point. A major part of the future were the shoes that Marty wore. These Nike Air Mags were slick. They were very futuristic in fashion, and they also had a futuristic amenity to it: the laces would tighten themselves.

More on the shoes, they were mainly white and gray. Another key element to these shoes were the fact that they lit up. Everyone knows that the only truly great shoes are the ones that light up (I have three pair in my closet that I sport around my house/whenever I go out). I always said that if these shoes were ever released, I would be the first ones to buy them. Sadly I doubt that will happen. The official Nike shoes will be sold in a limited auction in late spring 2016.

The first pair that was ever worn in real life were worn by no other than Michael J. Fox, the actor who portrayed Marty McFly in the movies.

After he put the shoes on, he stated, “That’s insane…it’s really great.” It sure seems to be that he is excited about the new shoes and it probably feels like a bit of a rewind in time for him (pun intended since the title of the movie is back to the future). The shoes work by pushing buttons on the back of the heel to tighten or loosen the laces.

In a statement, Nike said, “This innovation advances what was coined the Nike Mag’s ‘power laces,’ combining the archetype invention with digital technology,” it continued, “The result is an individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion to provide adaptive on-demand comfort and support.”

These shoes seem to be sweet. I would love to buy a pair and may do it illegally. However, one of the great upsides of buying them at the auction is that all the proceeds produced by the sale will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to combat Parkinson’s disease.

These shoes are creating such a hype that Senior Brian Smedley wanted to comment on them.

Brian said, “I have seen all three of the Back to the Future movies. The release of these shoes is a great idea because one they are cool, and two the money is going to a good cause.”

If you haven’t seen the movies I recommend watching them and then going out and buying a pair of these shoes.
